    This is good.
They look fine. As long as you don't wear it with a tie.

Big takeaway from this thread: If you are Cary Grant or Brad Pitt you can look decent in a short sleeve dress shirt. They could make a garbage bag poncho look good.

is there even such a thing as a short-sleeve DRESS shirt? i think that's a contradiction in terms.

short sleeve shirts as professional attire work in three situations, in my experience:

    - small towns in france (occasionally paired with a tie, especially if you are making a trip out of town)
    - american heartland car dealerships
    - roving jehovah's witnesses

anywhere else and you're asking not to be taken seriously.

    I agree, completely.

So, if I roll up my shirt sleeves a lot in the summer, I should be shot dead?

There is no such thing as short-sleeve dress shirts; rather, they are merely long-sleeve dress shirts that aren't yet completed.

These tie and short sleeved combo's used to be the preserve of our Israeli distributors when I worked in high tech in the '90s. We UK based guys didn't comment figuring it was probably so hot out there that we'd probably end up wearing eccentric stuff in their position.

Interesting about the surgeons comment earlier - I'd rather they didn't wear a tie if/when operating on me !

Tim Kang from The Mentalist does it all the time. He is a buff Asian dude, though.

At my store we have people (Smallish town Canada) asking for short sleeve dress shirts ALL the time.

    ... We have none ...

However, quite often we will shorten the sleeves, and put a basic cuff on it....

Trust me, it NEVER looks good.
