Is there any clothes / shoe shopping to be done in New Orleans? I have to head there on buisness soon and I am trying to decide if I should stay over and few extra days there or hit New York (again)

I haven't been there in a while, but would guess the shopping is far from great.
They had a Lord and Taylor and BB and all the typical dept stores. Nothing special.
At one time however shopping for hand-tailored was quite good. My Dad had a suit made for me by a guy who spoke with "The Italian Accent"--It fit like I was born in it. Those days are long gone.

I was there recently but didn't find anything of note except for Saks.

Rubenstein Bros on Canal street is a boutique that carries Zegna, Canali, Prada, Robert Talbott, etc. I can't make it out of town without some new ties by Brioni or Talbott. Women's section too.

I've had good luck with the Saks in the mall on Canal, and there's a Bally store. If I recall correctly, there's either an Hermes store or a dept store with a good Hermes section.

Nothing you can't get in NY clotheswise. I forget how the sales tax compares. But, remember that N.O., you can gamble, take to-go cups of your booze, and get the best baguettes, oysters, bloody marys, and pimms around.

one thing that I would suggest is that in the french quarter, if I remember correctly on royal and on chartes, there are a lot of very nice antique jewlery and watch stores that have very nice watches and cufflinks. not more than what you can do in a few hours, but you might find some cool stuff there.

There's a fine men's store a couple of blocks west of Canal, I think on St. Charles (or nearby). It's called Paul Boss or George Boss or something like that. It's probably the best in the city - a longtime Edward Green dealer, many Italian suits (Canali? I forget, but sport coats in the $3000 range), Barbour, Alden, and such.

Yeah George Bass is a really neat store.
Check it out.

And have fun in New Orleans. You can do some vintage shopping in Magazine Street.

Probably best to leave your home with an empty stomach and a full suitcase.

So what you are all saying is spend a couple extra days in New Orleans and give New York a pass this time? I get to New York a few times a year anyway so was leaning toward spendin extra time in New Orleans.
