Im looking for a good shoe store (salesperson) in NYC. I apologize as this is a repeat from the AA forum, but some folks dont overlap.

Essentially, Im trying to find someone who is trustworthy enough to buy some dress shoes that i wont end up bloody in a month after the purchase. to date ive been only an alden user as anything else ends up painful-particularly in heel slippage. However, a new alden try on seems to indicate my feet may have changed and the the aldens are no longer the best either.

THe andy post turned up two suggestions. Meltonian and Stapleton. Any futher comments or suggestions would be appreciated

It seems that you need to go to a multi-line shoe store or department so that you can try-out different makes at different price points.

I recommend Henri Rippatti at Barneys. He knows which shoes are comfortable and which shoes work.

I also recommend Saks. See Jim, the department manager.

Stapleton is a good, discount operation. However, the offerings tend to be standard businessman uniform.
