Jesus Christ! $500 is what a student on a "limited budget" spends on a pair of shoes? Either (a) you will REALLY regret your student loan payments when you get out or (b) dad's AmEx Black is your good friend.

I should say that I mean no criticism--I'm just plain jealous.

And, just to stay on topic, I'm a lawyer who makes pretty good money, but I have a family to support: AE's are about where I'm comfortable, though could see myself splurging on Church's or Alden at some point.

Green with envy,
AEP

$500 is probably the limit for me but I'm a real cheapass, I'll wait months just waiting for a crazy deal to come along. I'm ******* broke though. Never spent anywhere near that limit.

800 to 1000 for a pair of shoes, although I have been breaching them rules of late.
This of course means no bespoke for me.
No exotic skins either, unless of course its used and below the above price.

If I am travelling, I dont mind paying more because it will be like a souvenir.
But it will end up to be a style I already have.

I have hit my ideal sweet spot 3 times:

Barely used park avenues for $85
Barely used vintage black cherry ae ptb for $70
Barely used florsheim shell longwings for $150

Its hard for me to capture much more value than that: amazing on a cost per wear basis on shoes that are 100% classically styled and very well built

I have further splurged twice: once on c&j shell boots for $500 and once on Alden ravello boots for $700. In no way am I really comfortable spooging that much on shoes and I only did bc I essentially took a part time job flipping stuff on eBay to pay for them. (and I have a decent paying normal job) . That's how I justify it...I didn't wear the shoes until I had 100% paid for them with my hobby (selling
stuff).

And I splurged on those particular models bc there is no way to get something comparable for any less. I personally would not buy any new Alden #8 or black shell, or lobb or eg or c&j when ae makes a similar style

Which brings me to the question.. where were you during the Seoul meetup? Reto was there. He claims he's selling G&G and Vass for European prices + Duty and VAT. If I had an extra 900k krw around I'd be on it.

If it's butt ugly it's too expensive. I can't justify buying something I don't like because it's low priced. It's just throwing money away.
