Shoes - what kind should I get?

I'm a college boy and I'm looking for a pair of shoes to buy. I'm not sure whether I want a pair for year round or two pairs one for summer and other for cold weather.

I've had some vague notion of some kind of summery canvas shoes (or maybe not canvas?) that I could wear on chinos and a sports jacket, if there be such a thing. Can anyone suggest anything like that?

As for the rest-of-the-year pair, I've gone through a lot of different kinds and I'm really looking to be pointed to something I've not yet considered. I've looked at boat shoes, oxfords, bluchers , saddle shoes, different kinds of loafers, and a kind of shoe I don't know what it's called, it's like a boat shoe without the decorative laces on the sides.

Is there some other general type I should check? I'm looking for casual shoes and I don't want boots or things that are too high.

What about the shoes you photographed for your avatar? They look lovely. Did you lose them? Did... someone steal them?

Because he can use the search function to find what he's looking for, or ask in one of the many threads where this question would be appropriate.

Yes.

Plus, f you haven't learned how to ask a question, then you don't get a reply.

Every day some guy (or three) pops up with a question like: "hey, I'm a college student. I don't want to spend a lot of money and I don't care about style or fashion, but I was wondering, I need to get some new shoes to replace my vans because the soles are coming off, and I read something once about boat shoes, wing tipz or chewkahs and do u think these are good shoes to buy?"

What kind of search terms do you suppose would have turned up the answer to my question without turning up innumerable other threads which would not answer my question and which it would take me half a day to sift through?

What is wrong with the question?
