Which go better with a tan/khaki cotton poplin suit--brown or tannish shoes?

Either could work, but all else being equal I'd go for the contrast of the darker brown.

It also depends on what shirt and tie you are wearing. If they have any orange/red tones, then something like EG Chestnut also works well.

Leaning towards a white shirt with a navy pink polka dot tie; at least I hope it's pink; matching clothes, especially ties, isn't easy when you're color blind.

Well then our shoe recommendations are going to be pretty useless, no?

Blue is almost always better with tan.

I wore my golden khaki suit on monday with tan shoes.
Today I am wearing it with chocolate brown.

I prefer the chocolate brown, it gives a nice contrast.

Don't have a photo, but you can see it here (Doesn't look well fit in the pic.):

I have the English tan.

Back to shoes; would penny loafers (Allen Edmonds burgundy) work? Or should I go for a lace up? Since I'm already dropping one level in formality with the lighter suit, I figure the loafers should be all right.
