I have a wedding Sat night (my wedding if it makes a difference); and as of now, I am planning to wear the C&J Belgrave with a tux. I don't think that I am willing to shell out a lot of money for a nice pair of patent leather shoes...and with the wedding this Saturday don't really have anytime to shop around the net for them (unless the are sent overnight or something). Are the Belgraves passable if I put a mirror shine on them? If not, would a pair of Park Avenues be any better? I'm in Houston so I am a little limited in regards to availability. Please help.

Shhh. Don't tell anyone. But the mirror shined belgraves will be fine.

If we take pumps and patent oxfords off the table, the most correct shoe is a plain toe oxford like the Alden 935. (I'm not endorsing this particular shoe, just using it as an example of the type.)

Any captoe is wrong. But a stitched cap is less wrong than a punched cap.

If this is the only reason you're considering getting the Park Avenue, I'd stick with what you have. But it you've been wanting a pair of PAs (or another black stitched cap) anyway and think you'd get a lot of use out of them, now sounds like a good time to get some.

Unless your family and hers are all members here, it's unlikely anyone will notice or care what shoes you wear as long as they are clean and black.

Best wishes.
