I am pretty much clueless about shoes. What type of shoe is good for wearing with jeans? I currently just wear some smart (ish) trainers. I am 21, as i guess age has an influence on what is fashionable. i would like something that i can go clubbing in at night, and also wear around town in the day, for going on a date, that kind of stuff. Smart casual i guess.

I have seen the desert boots which look alright, but what other options are there? Is brown generally better?

my favorite sneakers by far are air force ones. casual, yet very nice. when clubbing however i always where a shoe not a sneaker. with jeans I normally would wear a pair of matching air force ones. If oyu go to nike.com you can prety much create them however you want. Usually range from $80 - alot lol.

I wear Dior Homme Hi-Tops with my jeans. Comfortable, good quality, and the ladies love em.

You wouldn't wear sneakers or Vans or Cons on a date, etc. so forget that stuff. Let's also assume we're talking darker jeans here too. Just find some basic lace-up oxford type that you like. Medium brown is cool, and black is OK too depending on what else you're wearing. I'm not crazy about stuff that's too shiny and dressy with jeans. Suede is great, but not if you have messy winter or wet weather where you are.

1. not vans
2. not flashy/gaudy
3. well made
4. street cred

the quality on some of them aren't that great. Suede desert boots fell apart on me after a few months of wear. Shoes tend to get dirty and white shoes terribly so. If you're looking for white shoes I'd just go for a cheap one from lacoste or somewhere else so when it gets stained or dirtied from just walking the streets in new york you can easily replace them.

Best advice in the thread.

A nice pair of oxfords look great with jeans and frequent wear while not polishing too frequently will break them in nicely so they aren't too shiny or dressy. The plus side is that if they are otherwise well taken care of they can be polished up and worn in a dressier application. My dress shoes I wear with jeans don't see that much polish, they get a lot of conditioner and the scuffs and patina become part of the character.
