Shoes for a rainy city

I'm living in Vancouver, BC now and it rains a lot here during fall/winter/spring. I'm looking to pick up a new pair of shoes that will keep my feet dry for the most part.

Right now, I wear nothing but converse. I know they won't cut it when the rain starts.

I've looked at a few pairs of boots but I can't get a feel for the look of myself wearing boots. It just looks "off" to me. I would get a pair if I found some I really liked.

Any other suggestions?

You could just get a leather pair of Chucks

Leather chucks would die in a torrential rainy city downpour. (I know from experience.) I live in Pittsburgh where they call for rain everyday and when they don't... the weather man gets fired. I suggest going to an outdoors store like ArmyNavy or Cabelas or something along that line and finding some sneaks made with goretex. Its expensive, but it holds up really well. The specific carbon compound used in Goretex is really incredible, they've begun using it for things like guitarstrings and other typically corroded surfaces.

Yeah, I definately don't think leather chucks would cut it.

I'll check out the goretex shoes but I was hoping to find something that is still pretty stylish.

Definitely something with goretex although I'm curious to see what you find. I live in the rainforest so finding a pair of dry shoes was a must for me. I came across a pair of adidas hiking shoes in black w/ goretex for around $40. While they ain't going to be sneakers, they're toned down enough that I really don't mind.

Just about all the major brands make streetwear-friendly sneakers with waterproofing.

I think a pair of Blundstones would be a great rainy weather boot. I am thinking of buying a pair. They are made of waterproof leather and I think they look good too.

i just sold my pair because i couldnt justify wearing them, but visvim moc 7 hole gore tex boots are ******* really well constructed

There's a new Nike sneaker coming out w/ GoreTex..might not be up your alley tho.

If you get desperate there are Goretex socks that will make any shoe "waterproof"; at least, your feet won't get wet. And of course galoshes. I saw a pair at a motorcycle shop by Totes shaped like rubber motorcycle/engineer boots with zippers.
