i recently bought a used pair of AE PA's used, and found that on the right shoe, the shoe tongue is hardened, whereas on the left , it was a lot more pliable. what do you guys suggest doing to soften the tongue of the right shoe? it causes pain when i walk due to its inability to bend.

i'm thinking using leather lotion / conditioner. thoughts?

I have the same problem with my Alden Cordovan wingtips. They are really stiff and make a creaking sound when I walk. Any suggestions? I tried applying conditioner but conditioner don't work fer Cordovan

Stop dressing so provocatively around them.

Has it been spending time next to your girlfriend's heels?

I have halfway solved the same issue with my leather boots with somewhat excessive application of shoe cream

I dunno, guys. Rubbing lotion all over it will, if anything, make it harder...

try neetsfoot oil its the best for that job. give it a chance to soak in by warming it.

It will take some time, but it'll work out fine

you guys still use lotion?

If it's stiff, just use the Pull-and-Pray method

Love how almost all the replies so far as just spam and +post counts.

OP, try unlacing the shoe (for more room) and bend/flex the tongue to loosen it up. I've had this problem with a pair of Alden cordovans and it did become a bit more pliable. Also, is it possible that your right foot is slightly larger than your left and fits the shoe a bit more? Tying the shoe laces tightly could make it a bit too uncomfortable, including the tongue since it is pressed on top of it, and give that hard sensation. Try untightening your laces on your right a bit and see if that helps too.
