Has anybody used a bespoke shoe tailor before?

If so, whats your verdict? Do you personally feel you get the most from your money this way?

Many thanks in advance :)

MrXavier, welcome. It has been known for one or two members here to dabble with bespoke clothing. Try entering the word bespoke into the search bar at the top of the page (below the line of menus) and see what comes up.

Fantastic.. Many thanks.

I got into a debate regarding 'Bespoke Shoes' over the festive period and I seem to be the only one that is still pro bespoke. However I shall take your advice and search here on the site for more in depth answers.

Many thanks, once again.

Look out for the threads called something like "the Anderson & Sheppard expatriates thread", and "my visit to Napoli su Misura"; they are both worth reading. Also look out for posts by members called Manton, Mafoofan or Voxsartoria.

I'm really curious what your debate partners brought up against bespoke. It might make for an interesting thread.

If it's money, there is bespoke and bespoke. There's the big names, like Brioni or Flusser, where you pay the overcharge for the exclusivity of the (doubtlessly superior and flawless) service, and there's the solid, honest, small artisan shops that while aren't cheap by any standard, will definitely give you more suit for your buck than any of the RTW or MTM companies.

I think there's plenty resource here about the latter kind of tailor. :)

I think that you are drawing too great a gap between decent bespoke and small artisan establishments. Brioni is merely an over-hyped name. But what of Anderson and Shepherd, Sedwell, Huntsman, Steed, Thomas Mahon, Gordon Yao and Chan (HK) all provide high quality garments at various price points in the middle ground. Many will not be able to afford any but they are all worth considering and quality and service are of the best. Style will be key determinant , some such as Gordon Yao and Chan are flexible, A and S is 'soft' and other specialise in an almost military style. Your's to research.

You're right of course. :) Anyway, point is that tailors come in various price points and styles, and one should be able to find the one that fits his needs.

EDIT: I see in the meantime it became "shoe tailors". It's either trolling, or if it isn't, then one, those people are called cordwainers, not "shoe tailors", and two, editing a thread starter after getting responses is highly confusing so it's not such a great idea.
