Shoe shops in NYC? Woodbury Commons?

I'm in New York for a day and would like to buy some shoes (on sale hopefully). I've searched the forum and a few names pop up, one of them is Leffot. Woodbury commons is also mentioned but that's an hour away, is it worth the trip there and back? Another thread mentions a great sale at Saks. I won't have the chance to visit all of them. Anyone have any thoughts on which are the best?

I think Woodbury Commons is always great. You're sure to find a good deal there. The Ferragamo usually has good sales on shoes, at IMO.

I am a big fan of leffot, but it isn't really a place for sales

Woodbury is not worth the trip, especially for shoes. You may get lucky, but it's hardly worth it for one day if that's what you're searching for, especially given the sales in Manhattan right now.

To help us out, what are you looking for exactly?

Currently there are good sales at Barney's, which generally has the biggest shoe department in the City, and fair ones at Bergdorf's and Saks (Saks has a big sale right now, but the shoes with the biggest mark downs are rather picked over). If you're interested in high end, you might take a stroll up Madison to Lobb, Weston, Church's, etc., which I believe have some mark-downs. Plus, this doesn't involve 2-3 hours on a bus and you can have a nice day in the city as well.

+1. I've never been impressed with Woodbury Commons for shoes. Don't bother.

Leffot has a fair amount at 30%. Jeffrey (on 14th Street near the west side highway) often has a shoe sale around this time (no idea if they do this year). Jeffrey has more "fashion-y" shoes - Gucci, Prada, etc., but also stuff like Church's.

Then you can head uptown. Bergdorf, Barneys, and John Lobb are all within a 5 minute walk and all have sales. The shoes on sale at Saks generally stink, although there have been rumors of 30% off Edward Green.

I was at saks on Sunday and their EGs were 30% off. Most were marked at $1080.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm looking to spend under $500 so that would limit me to Alden's, C&J and the like. I will check out Leffot tomorrow, and also the department stores if I have the time.
