I've had pretty bad luck buying shoes without trying them on (sorry, internet!). Where in LA, or areas north of LA on the 101 corridor can I find a good selection of mens footwear? I'm looking for brands such as Grenson, Trickers, Alden, Church's, and Crockett & Jones.

Thanks!

For Alden's, check out Carroll & Company in Beverly Hills. For Crockett & Jones, try Turnbull and Asser in Beverly Hills. I think Saks on Wilshire has a few Church's. I don't think you will find Grenson or Trickers in Los Angeles (but if I'm wrong, I'd love to know where). You can also get custom Edward Green's at the Polo store.

Morgan,

You in SB...you're out of luck. I can't think of anything between SB and LA.

The last time I was there, Barney's had a few C&J boots.

I am not aware of anyplace in the Greater Los Angeles area where Grenson's or Tricker's shoes are sold. There is also a Carroll & Co. in Pasadena, if that is any more convenient for you. There is another shop in Pasadena that sells Aldens. I can't remember its name, but I think you can find it on the Alden website. Recently Gary's in Fashion Island (Newport Beach) started stocking both Aldens and Edward Greens. Barneys in Beverly Hills stocks a small number of C&J shoes. The Polo shops in Beverly Hills and South Coast Plaza carry some shoes made for RL by C&J and Green. I believe C&J are still the vendors for some of the Brooks-Peal shoes. A John Lobb store recently opened in South Coast Plaza, if you want something that expensive. A few Lobbs are also sold at the Fashion Island Neiman-Marcus. The Saks at South Coast recently increased their shoe inventory. I was particularly impressed by the Carmina shoes, which are in the price range you are interested in. Churches are sold in one South Coast store, but I am not sure which (Jill Sander, maybe?). I vaguely recall that Barneys also may have them, but I'm not positive.

Let's hope "Shoe" weighs in on this. He could help you if anybody could. In any event, I hope this is of some assistance.

Make the trip to see Ian at STF, in Santa Monica.

He had a good selection of Sutor and Borrelli (by Santoni) - in December.
