I have some new grey wool garbadine slacks that I plan to use with my blue blazer. Should I be pairing black shoes with this outfit or brown shoes? For what it is worth I will be wearing braces with these slacks that have black leather tabs.

Brown or burgundy gets my vote. (black doesn't get much love here)

I'd go with dark brown. Personally, black shoes for me are more for suits or after 6PM. As for the braces, it shouldn't matter because they should never show.

Good idea. I actually need to get myself a nice pair of burgundy shoes as they are probably the biggest need I have in shoes.

I would recommend burgundy first. But don't be afraid to try brown/tan/chili with it either. Depending on the gray, the brown/tan/chili looks very nice in my opinion.

Yeah, you are talking to about 5,000 brown shoe guys. The modern view is that black is too funereal unless absolutely necessary.

Yeah, but he is doing the security guard - blue blazer and grey slacks. So required for the fit is black shoes. Preferably clunky.

i'd go for loafers. preferably in suede or some sort of antiqued leather. traditional oxfords or bluchers in regular leather would make for a security guard ensemble, IMHO.
