I was polishing a relatively new pair of shoes last night for about the second or third time . I wslas using a bit of water for a glassy finish. Anyway, I noticed that one spot at the top of the vamp kind of just stayed wet and didn't really gloss up. The leather in that spot looks lighter that the rest and looks like it has had it's natural brown finish stripped off . Weird. Did I go too hard? Tooch water, not enough wax?

What did I do?

Can I fix it?

Post a picture, as it will be easier to see. But, it sounds like you used too much water, which soaks the leather and makes kind of "soggy" for lack of a better term and also may discolor it. Let it try and use dye to regain the color. Next use a coat of creme polish-with no water. Then start polishing with again with wax, no water until you have a good solid base coat. Once you have a good base coat, you can then use a water after a coat of polish to harden the wax and create a "spit shine." You only need a very little bit of water with the wax. It will be a lot of work, but you probably have not ruined your shoes-don't worry.
