Shoe Maxes

As some of you know I have set a max on shoes that I own at any given time. I can rotate in & out as many pairs as I like but I can have no more than 10 leather-soled shoes at any given time.

Right now, exclusive of my max count I have a pair of boots, rubber soled black caps, suede pennys & a well worn pair of horsebit loafers.

I have not imposed a limit on my wife's shoe collection as I feel a woman can never have too many shoes/boots/sandals (as long as she wears them).

Have any of you set similar limits?

limits are purely theoretical in nature.

you will soon learn this, in about 2 pairs time I would imagine.

good luck.

Nah, I think I can stick to it. Otherwise I'd raise the limit to 15

What if you had to do what Mafoofan did (not that he had to) and set your max to 5 pairs

If you could only have one shoe but five pairs--what would your choice be?

I never thought about a maximum as there are too many good shoe makers and different styles. That would be amazing if you could keep it to ten pair. I am getting together a decent RTW collection then will add bespoke.

my limits for odd jackets, suits, shirts, shoes and trousers (ties and squares - 1 year) ; no more than 1 month (e.g., 30 of each).

fortuneately, that top limit exceeds the limits of my closets so I've only come close in Odd Jackets. The rest, I have plenty of room.

i currently only own 3 pairs of shoes. Nothing like most of the members here. as of sneakers i have 30 pairs. But slowly selling them. I really don't think there should be a limit.

Well since I've turned my belt closet into my son's suit closet, I've had to set a limit because of space reasons. My wife still has her bag closet, but again, shoes=bags so I let her rock.

I'm going to see if I can stay withing the limit for '09.

Despite a fairly steady buy/sell rotation, I always seem to end up with 30-35 pairs at any given time. That's all-in (dress and casual shoes and boots, sneakers, work boots, hiking boots etc.) Any more and I start feeling guilty and running into storage problems. Just counting dress shoes I usually have about 12 pairs.

I like that your limit is flexible to the point that boots and rubber-soled shoes don't count against the limit. Buy the hell out of chelseas and jodphurs and bal boots, and then just topy anything that doesn't fit under the 10/leather sole/shoe cap and call it a rubber-soled shoe.

Not counting "other shoes" helps me maintain & stay within the limits, I forgot to add a pair of mono black Chucks

Sounds good, but I'm anti-topy/rubber soles. My one pair of rubber soled shoes are in the bottom of the closet neglected & without box, just waiting to be thrown away, even tho they are in excellent condition & look great.

I'd be hard pressed to get to 10, but maybe 20 would be doable, and probably a good idea. There are shoes that I actually like in my closet that I never even got around to wearing this semester (I'm a professor). I'm having a good time getting some Aldens into my collection that I've always liked, and I'll always have some space for new shell cordovan. I promised my wife I'd get rid of a pair for anything new that comes in, but I've been bad at keeping that promise lately.

Well at least I have been helping with the boxes

How about spending maxes? Who has a ceiling for spending on a single pair of shoes?
