Hi, I'm a college student, whos relatively inexperienced with pairing clothes.

I just bought a corduroy jacket for this fall which i think is great, the only issue is that it is a really dark bark brown color. What I was wondering was if i pair the jacket a white or blue dress shirt with khakis or a pair of jeans do my shoes have to be a darker brown than the jacket, or can they be a slightly lighter brown or black instead? Thanks for your help.

What would look best to you?

Sometimes, matching is secondary to the way you wear your outfit.

Yes to varying shades of brown and black suede.

Would agree that any pair of shoes in the brown spectrum that strike you as aesthetically harmonious should be find, ditto for burgundy/cordovan.

I might also suggest that in addition to dress shirts in white or pale blue, you get some in the ivory/ecru/pale yelow spectrum. I think they would look much better with a dark brown corduroy jacket than plain white.

Black would be pushing it, unless the shirt and pants were black, or maybe if the shirt or pants were a brown/black check etc. Black boots would probably work.
