Hey guys,

I'm curious, what animals are possible (and used in the industry - both RTW and bespoke) for making shoes from? So far, this is what I can think of:

- Cow, both calf and full-grown cow
- Horse, as in Cordovan
- Crocodile/Alligator
- Lizard, including Iguana
- Snake
- Kangaroo
- Elephant
- Reindeer Calf, salvaged from an 1800's shipwreck?
- Eel
- Shark
- Antelope

What are some others?

Here's a pic I found:

I almost purchased an eelskin wallet a year or so ago. Â The leather was very thin and light, yet I have heard that it is very strong. Â Certainly a lot more interesting than a standard calfskin wallet. Â I've also seen some very cool stingray skin wallets. Â The leather has a nice pebbled texture, and the nicer wallets position the 'stinger' (which is a light-colored diamond shape) in the center-front of the wallet. Â

I'll also add to leather for shoes and boots: - Stingray

I once saw a tv show about bootmakers in San Antonio. There's some master bootmaker down ther who said: "If the bootmaker can catch it, he can make a boot out of it."
