I'm adding some storage to the guest-room closet so I went to IKEA in College Park, MD to buy some parts. The following conversation with the woman at the register ensued:

"Those are nice shoes."
"Thanks."
"What are they? Johnston & Murphy? Allen-Edmonds?"
"No, they're Edward Green...but those were good guesses."
"Edward Green...Hmmmm...I don't know those."
"They're not very common."

Later, after I'd paid:

"So where are those from...where are they made?"
"England"
"Like Church's."
"Yep."

Have you met the IKEA employee/men's shoe aficionado?

Hmmm, I've been to that IKEA. Sounds like I need to go back to get some stuff... only while wearing my G&Gs or Lobbs.

Probably quite a few single men will be putting on their best shoes and head out for IKEA, College Park MD in search of a date.

I'm rolling up in my Santoni's this weekend! Need some odds and ends anyway and those cinnamon buns are surprisingly good.

Here is my AE shoes compliment story:

At my local gym in the morning, get changed come out and one of the male trainers gives me the

“nice shoes!”

As he is 20 and wears sneakers all day I was surprised he noticed.

Me “thanks I like these ones too”

Him “I am really into shoes, even though I don’t get to wear them much.”

Me “O h yes, well there are some great shoes out there”

Him “are those Browns?”

Me (somewhat dejected now) “No they are Allen Edmonds”

Him “are those as good as Browns”

Me “Hard to say, but I like them, have a great morning”,

Since we're sharing, a female friend of mine saw my G&Gs and said, "Whoa. Fancy shoes." My wife chimes in: "He's really into shoes. Like a girl."

Friend: "So, do you have lots of Cole Haans?"
Me: "Cole Haans? Please."
Friend: "Why? too expensive?"
Me: <Laughter> these cost more than CH, since you brought up price.
Friend: Are you kidding? CHs are like $1,000. They're the best shoes there are [or something like that].
Me: If they make a $1,000 shoe, I've never seen it, and probably wouldn't wear it.
Friend: But they have Nike Air soles!
Me: So, tell me about your new job...
