Have you ever stood on dog **** in a commando-type sole? Or even just sticky clay soil? Absolutely awful picking all the stuff out of those chunky grips - stones, ****, mud, small cars...

Definitely better to stay with leather (or Danite's standard spotty pattern if it's wet, maybe). If you're going cow-tipping, leave the Edward Greens at home and put some wellies on!

Dainite is awful.
For rubber to be as hard wearing and to last as long as leather, it needs to be quite dense, which unfortunately means they don't grip at all. Dainite has this disadvantage, but also doesn't have much traction. I find leather soles actually have more traction than dainite.
My advice is to get a boot with leather soles and have a cobbler install commando on them.

Thanks. I am looking for a new pair of boots that I like, that has commando soles. If I am unable to find a pair then I think I will take your advice.

Now THIS is what to wear in the snow. Have had various iterations of these since I was in middle school.

I have a pair of Sorel Boots for the snow. They are great to wear for shoveling or while frolicking in the snow. I am looking for a pair of boots to replace a pair of leather to boot new york boots that have commando soles.

A good reason never to wear trainers again.
