A BEAST of a shoe for today, but about average when compared to many of the Jurassic Period pairs from the 40's & 50's.

Why were these a "grail shoe" for you? I'd love to have a pair because they are unapologetic about their . . . toothsomeness.

No need to be snarky, Jimmy. You're quick to comment, so it's only fair that you should take the time to post as well. The first 2 pairs are quite stunning. Modern takes on classic 1940's vintage styles. At least we seem to agree on G&G.

Nice Ich; I especially like the Tricker's black adelaide (source?). The dark brown stitched captoe is C&J? What model?

The C&J is actually for Peal & Co.

I couldn't agree more. They are similar to the Berluti wholecuts shoes I already own (which must be over 10 years old now) - which I was wearing when I bought these shoes.

I think you will find that the Santoni Ltd Edition leather is more durable and less prone to creasing than the Berluti.

2 reasons:

1) JM Weston calls it their "Flagship Shoe". The model they claim to have pulled all the stops when making... it is a fair judge of what they are capable of.

2) It is a throwback to my favorite era of Vintage shoemaking... the late 1940's thru the 1950's. Thick soles, sturdy leather, using the welt edge as a canvas for design & style. Basically a modern take on "I don't give a f*ck" shoes. A dressy "combat boot" of a shoe.

£595 Santoni Laurence.

Laurence is the name of the last shape. Santoni does a weird job of naming shoes - each 'make' doesn't even necessarily get a name. That's a wonderful price for that shoe. I paid almost the same for my Navy Blue Santoni Oxfords at Harrods - they are just as high a quality but not nearly so notably 'special' at these wholecuts.

regarding Magnanni, how's the quality?

Decent at best. The pairs I have are bologna constructed, and they are serving me well; but the leather seems a bit sub-par and the finishing on the antiqued ones isn't great and makes creases look ugly (discolored). Not bad if you can get them on sale. They have different quality levels though, and some of their rubber soled models are hideous.
