Sole (in this case a double sole) stitched with a square awl at 10 stitches/inch.
In central Europe, where everything is stitched with a round awl, stitch length never seems
to go below 1/2 'Paris Point' (3.3 mm) which works out as 7 1/2 spi.

I didn't know that about Paris Point being a standard for outsole stitching in Central and Eastern Europe. Some of what I've seen looks more like five to the inch.
I've seen those as well. ("Large stitches buy you bread"). I think 1/2 PP is top-work.
