    @ fritzl: Her name is Hendrikje Ehlers, Posh Schuhe, Berlin. You are right about the soles. Will do. What do you think I forgot exactly? What ARE toe taps? Metal cleats?

    The overhaul included: New Rendenbach soles front and heels, New heel leather (Fersenfutter), repair of the inner lining in the pinky toe area, reglueing some alligator cracks and padding them with leather patches. Very nice job imho and at very fair rates (didn't even charge shipping).

    Hope that helps
    Best A

    PS. Re your comment on my new, yet to be delivered Mafteis: What do you think? Did he do a good job on these? My first pair from him.

    What makes you think the shoes are not British-made?

    Construction is 'Veldtschoen', where the lining is lasted to the inside, but the upper leather is lasted to the outside. This improves the water resistance of the shoes and is used for country and field shoes/boots. (C&J, Tricker', EG, AS all offer currently a few styles in Veldtschoen construction.)

    Saxone was a large mid-market manufacturer based in Scotland. Production seized some time in the early 70s, although the name is still used as the trade name for cheap imports.

    ask posh. she knows what i mean regarding the toe taps. she recommends teflon instead of metal, though.

    what do you not understand by "so wie es sich gehört." did you see him at a masstag and where?

    I both love and hate these Japanese shoe construction gif's. Some are dead on as to a particular construction technique, while others are maybe a bit off. Although the above diagram is Veldt, it is just a FORM of the construction. More often than not, the uppers are not turned outward and stitched to the topsole like the pair rabies posted. This form may could easily be argued to be Norvegese actually.

    There are two industrial methods with the upper turned outside) showing a single row of stitching: 'Veldtschoen' (Boer-Dutch for 'Field shoes) the other one is 'stitchdown' (a less elaborate method used classically on unlined Clark's desert boots). Norwegian will have at least two (if not three) rows of stitching. In this sample the folded-out upper leather has been 'fudged', which is not strictly necessary. You might presume this is a welt.

    The advantage of the folded-out leather is no nook where the water (particular from grass wet with morning-dew, not so much puddles) cannot work its way easily into the shoes. The drawing is spot-on to the British industrial method.

    EG's 'Galway' in Veldtschoen construction:

    good info, as always. Didn't know about "fudging", which explains the "hidden" out-turned upper.

    Not sure about this, however.

    @fritzl:

    Yes, met him at Frankfurt measure days. Shoes will be delivered end of April. So, I assume your "So wie's sich gehört" is an approval of my ideas which went into the shoe? Thanks!
