I know what you mean. It's tough to see in the image but the toebox is twice as shiny as the rest of the upper. I worked hard on the transition between mirror shine and standard shine. It's easy to get a real noticeable line where the mirror hits the non-mirror. For once, I transitioned it fairly well.

However, when the transition is more abrupt, it doesn't look right either. Like these, I needed another thin coat of wax on that transition point.

Actually, a question while we have some new kids in the playground (MoL's Carminas). Whats the history of an austerity shoe? To me, I always thought it was a super formal detail, something really clean and unembellished with a medallion, etc. Here we see it on suede - and while I like the way it looks, I am thinking it is contradictory to my belief that it was only on formal shoes (i.e. calf). Am I way off the mark with this?

FAIK the austerity was a stylistic response to scarcity of leather - brogues requiring the extra layer - during the second world war IIRC
dunno about whether it's kosher on suede. don't see why not

Excellent those EG for Hardy Amies. I would wear them with some silm fitted, contrasting coloured pants (or lighter grey). Such an understatement with grey flannels.
