    The Scribe line is a beast. Lotsa thick soles & wide welts. Extremely heavy (comparatively) & well constructed. I'm not sure how I feel about that stitched madalion... but a "good ugly" shoe.

    The Scribe Dub Monk is a heavy shoe. Bally is popular in Sydney so I have had the chance to try them on. There was a nicer earlier dub monk which I was stupid not to buy on sale. They sell for AUD1200 in Australia.

    :slayer:Those monks are sweet!! But I like the Scribe line. That style may be included in the Labor Day sales at the Bally outlet stores (call first)

    Since we're talking Tanks, I thought I'd post what may be the Grand-Daddy of 'em all...

    Late 1940's John McHale Cape Toe Bluchers. Sole height is a whopping 5/8 inch & the Welt Edge is a cool 1/4 inch.

    These are Howitzers to be sure. Crazy Canadiens sure can make some mean shoes!

    In all seriousness, all the big welts and thick soles don't mean sh*t unless your quality is there. In terms of construction, the work is top quality & the leather is some of the nicest I've seen. I wonder why some of the Big Name modern makers can't get leather like this. It ages wonderfully & develops a fabulous patina... but WILL NOT CRACK (even without regular polish & conditioning) unless under extreme conditions.

    Not bad for 60+ years old, I think.

    ^ Tom Cruise called, he wants his shoes back.

    Seriously, though, those awesome-looking shoes. I could never get away with wearing them because I'd have to pick my feet up a little more to clear the ground and I'm barely getting it done as it is.

    I hope *my* hide holds up that well after 60 years...

    On the subject of the Scribes I've decided that I love them. Kind of in a way that you'd love an ugly pet such as an overweight bulldog....
