I didn't know that Alfred Sargent still had some museum calf knocking about.

Iunno, I guess it takes more effort/skill to do a cloven hoof as opposed to a rounded one (think sanding wheel).

You should see the photo that jefferyd posted after shining them up -- they looked absolutely fantastic. I rehosted the pic on imgur:
Jefferyd also posted these 82 last chelseas around the same time ... the mirror shine on the toecap is marvelous.
