Oh, I know. And again it's good outsoling. It's just as a shoe/bootmakerif there's gonna be any advertising on the bottom of my shoes it's gonna be for me not some other outfit. It's not on there deep but to remove it you have to glass or sand away too much grain surface to get an even finish.

Years ago Weston would advertise:"J.M. Weston since 1891 is the only master shoemaker that owns its leather sole tannery and makes its own soles."

The definition of "master shoemaker" being their room for error.

I posted that. Give credit where credit is due.

I laughed so hard at that. He is really getting into it.

Now that's a "proper" grained leather brogue - wonderful to see!

Personal opinion alert! But I can't stand...and can't understand why any self-respecting shoemaker would allow...the logo left visible. It's like wearing a shirt with "Acme Cleaning" or "Gant Shirtmakers" embroidered on the back. Except that it is really hard to finish a JR outsole to the point where the logo can be eliminated.

I lobbied for and for a short time was able to buy JR outsoles with the logo stamped on the flesh side. But no more. JR didn't like the bother.

personally i prefer the soles on my G&G's to Vass, from what i know they are Bakers both RTW and BS, i find them to have better traction that the JR ones

Thanks! That may be my Sunday project...

In my experience...from the JR outsoles I have purchased here...they are harder than the Baker (and as I said, more brittle). that would explain the better traction of the Baker. It should be noted that harder is not always better...it can actually wear away faster.

So if EG uses JR how do they get the bottoms so butterily mirrored without losing too much of the surface material as DWFII mentioned?

EG likely buy enough volume for JR to bend a little and provide the soles sans logo.
