The AE looks every bit as good as the JL. If you didn't say or post picture of the soles, I'd have guessed it's a Vass R last. Why all the models made for European or Japanese markets look better than American ones? Why do they keep dumping down on us?

    [snip...]

Well, let's not go crazy! I can even tell on my monitor that the shoe on the right is quite a bit more refined in its last and details (stitching tighter, perfs closer and more delicate, welt more precise).

But I agree with everyone who's angry at AE: why do they send the high-end stuff elsewhere?

I note that in europe in the 90's, there were a lot of well-built small cars with the "Ford" emblem. And you couldn't get those here either. But at least in that case you could make an argument for it based on trade and manufacturing. It's not like Ford was building the cars in the USA and shipping them there.

I wonder if there's somewhere in Europe to source these AE shoes. Maybe we can get aportnoy on the case. [IMG]

That cat in the picture is not mine, it's ZJ's. Mine passed away of old age earlier this year.

Thanks. I knew exactly how you felt when RJ Chat left. Good thing was mine had lived a long (almost 19), happy healthy life, and I was kind of prepared for the inevitable.

The store is smaller than I thought, about 3 times the size of the old Lattanzi Madison Ave. store plus a loft stock room:

Their "bespoke" is just MTM, the upcharge is minimal, about $100 IIRC. There's no difference in terms of quality between "bespoke" and RTW. Since their standard sizes fits me just fine so I opted for RTW and besides I don't know when I'll be able to make another trip back for subsequent fittings. Here're some more pictures from the store:
