And, fresh from C&J's factory shop today...

Also visited the John Lobb factory shop. They've got lots of discontinued models on sale at the moment, including the Vintage 2003 and 2004 in various colours and the Marston in Ardilla calf. I've been after the Vintage 2004 and Marston for ages, but they didn't have my size in the former and it turns out the latter, being on the 7000 last, doesn't fit me very well. [IMG]

If you don't mind TKDKID, please gives prices or % discounted.

    Thanks,

I picked up the wholecuts earlier this year - I think they were leftovers from the Gordon Scott closing down sale that made their way to the Jones Bootmaker near me. Don't think you can get them any more, but the C&J factory shop did have some other Handgrade wholecuts on a different last for GBP 220 (including VAT).

The Westbournes are factory rejects and were GBP 90 (including VAT). The only problem I could find was a tear in the lining on the inside of one shoe, which I can live with/patch up.

Damn, I've just got to get some semi-brogues with the U throat / facing. I phoned the C&J factory yesterday about the 'westbourne' but no joy. They did have some handgrades in my size but the price (£220) is what I pay for perfects - I have a 'weymouth' & 'belgrave' on order elsewhere.

I think there are some other C&J similar if not identical to the 'westboune', 'albany' springs to mind and I think it's in the handgrade range (I may have this wrong).

In the latest catalogue there is the handgrade Belgrave (337) which is similar (£335rrp) or a benchgrade derby- Draycott (317) for £245.

Indeed the 'belgrave' is a lovely shoe and I look forward to mine arriving together with a pair of "˜weymouth'... possibly this week!

I understand the styles in the retail catalogue are limited. The selection is far greater in the mail order version and some styles may be reserved for specific outfitter's / C&J stores only.

Retail models are relatively easy to obtain on discount but models in the mail order catalogue have proved less so. The C&J factory is attractively priced for seconds but does anyone know where I might purchase the 'westbourne' or identical other at a good price?

The catalogue price of £245 is indigestible when I usually pay £215 for handgrades.

    Not sure I understand.
On the front of my catalogue it declares: "Mail order & Retail Catalogue 2006/2007"
You are saying there is an overlap, and a reduced choice for the shops, but lower prices and possibility of discounts? Where are you getting handgrades for less than benchgrade price, if not factory shop seconds?
The number of model/material combos for benchgrade runs to around 70; handgrades to 24.

I think so, they had stuff in all sorts of sizes.

Vintage 2003, Vintage 2004 and Marston came with shoe trees and were GBP 300 (including VAT).

There were some other nice shoes there too - Kennet captoe oxford on the 8000 last, some quarter-brogue (I think?) on the 7000 last, a load of Chesland chelsea boots and Varese buckle boots... [IMG]

My understanding from reading other threads & speaking direct to several on-line retailers is that C&J are selective about the shoes they allow retailers to sell via the internet. Independent outfitters who carry C&J stock may have access to other models not in the catalogue.

You are quite right the current catalogue says mail order & retail. Based on my understanding (which may be wrong) I think this refers to models available via mail order (Royal Exchange store) & over the counter so to speak at all other C&J stores.

Apologies for the confusion. I should have made it clear I was referring to internet-based sales when suggesting limited model availability.

This English shoe fetish is getting expensive at $2/GBP.

I scored a pair of JL 2006 in Red Lord. Pics will follow after shipping from Merry Ole England.

yeah, kind of a black and blue purpley kind of thing

Sort of Berluti-like but far subtler. It's enough just to look at them and think, hmmm, they're black, but not quite...
