Saw a shady looking dood today with a red velvet collar coat on Madison Avenue and thought I spotted the stalker, but unfortunately it was in covert cloth.

Was his hair slicked back and did he have glasses?

No, but he was creepy....perhaps the red velvet is the signature of some secret society.

I remember I once asked C&J on Jermyn street for a new box, as I had "fallen over onto the box whilst putting the shoes on". All rubbish of course, but I did ring the Burlington Arcade store in haste by accident, but Jermyn Street were still happy to oblige.

Why do this? Why not just use a shoe rack? I feel like I am missing something here (while gaining closet space).

It's partly about keeping it all together. Plus, if/when you offer them up for sale, you have a complete set.

+1 Also inside the shoe box:

1) sales receipt
2) info to verify retail price
3) 1 or 2 pics from newspapers or magazines
4) plastic boxes for shoes without original box.
5) For badly damaged original boxes:
remove the front part of the box and add it to the new plastic box

That's lots of good documentation. I keep receipts, but not in an organized fashion; they're simply thrown in a drawer. The only boxes I keep are for my Lobb's. All my shoes are stored in shoe bags and placed on shelves.
