Shirt too tight when "hugging"

I am getting second set of shirts from MT and trying to assess yoke/shoulders.

Right now, the shirt falls well on my shoulders. However, it feels too tight when I hug. The shirt is fine for other motions, but I feel pulling if lift my arms in front of me.

Now, if I make the yoke measurement larger, like another shirt I have which is 1" wider and allows better movement, but doesn't fit shoulders as well.

What should I do? I thought of side pleats maybe? I dunno.

That's why I prefer to fist-bump.

Well then substitue the hugs for a nice firm hand shake or a pat on the back.

You are going to change your shirt measurements for something you do maybe once or twice a day?

Not just when hugging. Any action with arms in front of me. This includes pushing open a door, elbows on a table, even just one arm going up like when shaking hands.

I am not exactly sure how people with flat back shirts that fit well end up moving since I definitely feel restricted.

Will side pleats help? Or would I increase some measurement?

Do you feel the pull on your back or below your armpit? I have problem with the latter. I think MT cut the armhole without enough curve and that is a problem.

It's my back really. Much more so sides of back in the backs of my shoulders. This includes both against the yoke seam, above and below (which would be close to armpits).

If it's more or less that general pulling and not specifically underneath back of armpit, then it likely is an issue with the whole thing and not curvature of sleeve seam?

I spend most of my day hunched over a computer, so I know the feeling. The shirt is too tight in the back between the armholes. This is what pleats are for.

If its your back thats tight then consider having a box pleat put in. Not much love for them round these parts, but they are functional.

box pleats are not functional. side pleats can be. MTM you should be able to get away with having neither.

Of course box pleats are functional. A 1.5" box pleat adds three inches of fabric down the entire back of the shirt. That's a lot--more than side pleats, which I think are usually worth about 1.5-2".
