They don't really work together. The shirt is quite vulgar and needs a dark simple tie to tone down.

Bet me to it. I rarely wear a patterned tie (wheter it be striped, argyl...) with a patterned shirt. It is too busy.

Agree with the solid navy or purple. There is a lot going on with that shirt. I hope the suit is a solid.

If you are in a conservative work environment (you said banking) you are working on the wrong problem. Lose the shirt, it is the problem here. All those ties work with a light blue or white shirt.

I really liked that shirt. What do you think of it in general? Let's say for a regular party or maybe even a wedding?

The first shirt is not ugly, but it's very... memorable. In a extense wardrobre, it could be a fine shirt to wear once in a while.

That second shirt is just the opposite. It's very versatile and you could almost wear it daily without any problems, pairing it with any suit and any tie.

The first shirt is ugly. The key to dressing well has always been to keep it simple. Light blue or white shirts in solid colors or subtle patterns is always the way to go. The RL shirt you showed is perfect. Any navy or dark colored tie would look great against it.
