A Zegna shirt I have says handwash, can I just put on delicate cycle cold water with an easy detergent like Woolite and be ok?

Should be fine. I machine wash all my high end shirts, Borrelli, Finamore, etc. and havent had any problems. I do it on delicate or rinse cycle with cold water and light detergent. Just make sure you turn them inside out to protect the buttons and hang dry them.

For dress shirts, I recommend hand washing the collars and cuffs first, then washing in a mashine with cold water on a delicate setting, and hang drying.

i wash all my shirts with hot water, hand dry and iron with light starch on the fronts, cuffs and collars (since i always wear a jacket i only starch those areas).

I use hot water only on shirts i've washed at least once, and i throw in one of those color catchers, obviously i wash similar colors together.

I wouldn't risk it! Had an Orvis silk shirt once which said "handwash only" - which I meticulously did. One day my good wife threw it in the machine on a delicates wash, at 30C and heypresto it fitted my 8 year old!

Seems a good way to get a SW&D approved fit.

Do you have front load machine? They tend to be much easier on clothes then the older top load models. I machine wash and then tumble dry all my shirts with no problem. Most are MTM, but a few Canali adn Zegna are in the bunch.

Is the OP's shirt silk?
