    Poplin or Broadcloth would be considered the dressiest or most formal of the weaves listed.

    The main factor in all of these weaves is in fact the yarn size and thread counts.

    an oxford weave in a small tight weave in a 140/2 is much better then a 50/1 broadcloth.

    I think there is a very good explanation in Andy's book.
