can anyone advise me on possible shirt & tie color combos to be worn with a dark charcoal suit? a white dress shirt seemed a little boring so I was thinking of something along the lines of pink or lilac. if I went with pink or lilac what color tie would best work? should I go with a spread collar or narrow collar? am I right in assuming that a tie of the same color or hue would look out of place? i'll be attending a black tie optional fundraiser at the end of the month and want to look my best. should I go with a bold tie with a paisley or floral pattern? i'll be wearing a pocket square too but figured the color of the pocket square would be determined by my shirt and tie colors.

White shirt with black tie for a monochrome look. Ideal for the black tie fundraiser. Less is more.

Pink shirt: red or burgundy tie.

Spread or narrow: whatever you like. If you have a chubby face, then narrow collar.

Bold ties in paisely/florals make me puke, but that's just me.

A charcoal suit is a canvas, it is hard to go wrong.

If it's black tie optional, you should wear a dinner jacket. If you don't have one, now's a good time to buy one.

Light blue shirt and a brown tie.
