Shipton has a USA site for shoes and boots that sell for less than $270, plus $20 flat shipping from the UK. This seems like a great deal. Several of the boots look really good. What's the quality like for these shoes? How do they compare to C&J, AS, "Peal" (Brooks Bros), and other good English shoes? Shipton UK's site for US customers

They are just rebranded C&J's, Sargent's and possibly other english shoes.

In general, S&H keeps the style name, but puts their own logo on it.  So a C&J Blank would be rebranded as the S&H Blank, a Sargent something would then be the S&H something.

Sometimes it is a good deal, sometimes not.

I have bought from Shipton several times, and been entirely satisfied both with the price and the quality.

I bought the Erskine black derby a few months back. They were made by Grenson. Thought that $290 total was a pretty good price. Customer service was also very good; I had to return for a different size and they were very helpful in advising me.

Tell me more about your experience with their sizing charts. On the US site, in the pull down menus next to each shoe, the sizes are, apparently, US sizes. Were the shoes you ended up with true to size? For example, if you generally wear a US10.5, did their 10.5 fit you?

The erskine derby seemed larger than indicated. I typically wear a US12, but ended up with a US11 in this shoe. The operator at Shipton was pretty helpful in the size-decision process.

Halkin/Wilton/Ranger/Harley are made by Crockett & Jones, the Arran by Cheaney, the Holborn by Sanders and Sanders and the Bure by an Italian factory.

Are the C&J shoes not up to normal C&J standards? The most expensive Shipton & Heneage shoes are a quite a bit cheaper than C&J's own branded shoes...

I purchased the burford double monks and have been totally happy. Shipton and Heneage got the sizing right and the shoes were a great value for the money. There were a couple of finish issues, but nothing that wasn't fixable. Service-wise they were fantastic and shipped earlier than expected. Plus they put your name on the box, which I got seriously excited about for no reason....
