I got myself a pair of CH Â shell cordovans this weekend. Â Pretty good and well made. Model is Wales. Double thick soles. Also got a pair in black (not cordovan though) -

From what I can tell, they certainly look nice. I especially like the medallion...a bit sparser than most, but not radically different. Are they brown? Also, they don't look like any CH's I've ever seen...are they new old stock?

Yes, they are very special. On the sole it states "Genuine shell cordovan". They had similar pairs in nutmeg colour that stated "English calf" on the sole. Unfortunately no captoes in my size. However got some split toe monk straps like that.

BTW, the black captoes are amazingly nice. One of the best shoes from Cole Haan. Easily comparable to the Artiolis they had a few years ago.

Indeed they are very nice. Where they were made? Where did you go them?

Yeah... I got the nutmeg-colored "English-Calf" version that you mentioned. Not a bad shoe, for the money. I would have liked to find it in black; in any event, I've done my best to "antique" the shoes, and have managed to (only just) approximate a patina that is close to what EG calls Burnt Pine. If nothing else, the shoes have been fun to experiment with...

TYhose are attractive shoes. I'm generally not a big CH fan, but I like those. Maybe I will have to start looking at their shoes a bit more closely.

Interesting story. I wear an orthotic and tried to pull the intersole out of the wales monk in a store and saw a piece of interlining that said "Artioli".

I own the black monk--a little too glossy for my taste and the captoe in cordovan, which I have not worn yet. I am a split-toe-monk nut, but think the cap toe is the better of the two.
