Shell cordovan dress boots on the motorcycle?

Hi guys, I'm considering getting a pair of Allen Edmonds Daltons in shell cordovan with Dainite soles for motorcycle riding, and wanted some advice on whether it'll be a good fit both stylistically and functionally. Is a brogued dress boot too dressy for motorcycle riding? I'll be mostly wearing it for short commutes, and occasionally I'll have to ride through some rain. Will shell cordovan stand up to the wear and tear, and with proper care will they be able to retain their function as dress boots over time?

Thanks for your advice!

go out and get a structured pair of boots designed for motorcycling, the best pair you can afford. motorcycling is not for the style conscious. my recommendation is a pair of high end Alpinestars.

me? Alpinestar supertechs, mine are several years back. same thing with gloves, race gloves. take a look at your ankle, imagine it pinned beneath a 400lb (if you're lucky) motorcycle, sliding across the asphalt. you want ankle and wrist support unless you enjoy spending weeks in physical therapy. I've been prepared and still broke my leg... but not my ankle.

Just want to add that since this is StyleForum, I'm looking for advice on the style related questions posed in my post rather than general motorcycle safety advice. I'm not looking for recommendations on motorcycling boots as I have a variety of safety-oriented ones, rather I'm wondering whether this particular style of boot is a stylistic fit for motorcycle use.

true but style over common sense is foolish. That said good luck, maybe take a riding class too

No need to condescend, I've been riding for over a decade, been through my fair share of slides, and have come to terms with my risk profile. Again, looking for style tips here at StyleForum.

I do short commutes in shell boots, not brogued though:

I've also had a couple pairs of george boots made by @DWFII specifically for motorcycle commutes. Here's a pic of a pair made from water buffalo.

Imo, george boots are ideal because they're easy on/off but still protect your ankle. There's more pics of it, a shell pair, and some other dressy boots I wear while riding here.

Thanks, exactly the kind of info I'm looking for!

Very good. I forgot to mention here that top pair above have Dainite soles and gusseted tongues. Both are helpful in the rain imo. Some of the ones in the thread I linked to have Dainite soles too. On days when it's pouring, I just wear old Frye cowboy boots as water has never gotten through those. But I only wear them for short trips, ~20 mins. When I used to do long, cross-country trips, I used Sidi On Roads with Sympatex liners. They'd stay dry in hours of downpours.
