Is it acceptable to where shell burgundy shoes with a charcoal, dark, almost black suit? Or do I need to wear black shoes?

It depends how "almost black" your suit is. Many say that burgandy cordovan looks good with black; I have a dissenting opinion. I have a pair of dark, dark, dark charcoal (almost black) pants; I don't think they look good with my burgandy cordovan shoes.

To complicate things, I'm talking about AE longwings, Macneils. I'll be wearing the charcoal suit to an evening event. It's not black tie. It's a business event. Are those shoes still OK given this additional info?

BTW, it's really great to have someplace where I can ask these questions!

I've worn burgundy shell to evening business events although I tend to wear black more often. Unlike many here, I think longwings are fine with suits. I wear them almost daily.
