Sheepskin Discolouration

I recently bought a second hand sheepskin jacket which for the most part is in great condition. I've had to do some small repairs and tweeks myself but there's one issue that I don't know how to resolve on my own. The outside part of the collar has discoloured and taken on a more tough texture than the fur on the inside of the jacket which remains soft and a pleasant shade of brown.

My question is: can I do anything to restore the colour or texture (preferably both) of the fur on the collar?

The short and simple answer: unless you re-die the entire coat, there is nothing you can do. What you are observing is color fading due to light exposure and wear that is irreversible (you can only lay the jacket opened up in the sun to get the lining to look like the collar, but I'm not sure this is what you want). The curling of the collar is normal as well as a result of wear and weather (humidity etc). You can carefully try to use a brush or rough comb to make it a bit more fluffy again, but it will never quite look like new again.
My recommendation, just wear it as is and view the patina as "character".

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
