You happen to live in a city with at least one excellent resource, Colognial Drug, #49 Brattle St. Their prices are a bit high but they have a completely awsome selection of traditional shaving stuff, probably the most extensive east of the Misssissippi. Copely Place Mall also has Art of Shaving and Crabtree & Evelyn (C&E in particular sells a badger brush for about $35 that's well worth the price). BTW, the Kiss My Face shaving creams will work even better with a shaving brush. A really excellent brushless cream is Cremo-Cream.

Now that I've been at it a while, can feel good with these recommendations:

Trumper's rose cream - great smell, spectacular lather, great shave. Quality is the same across the different scents I've tried.

Mama Bear's shaving soap (various scents) - great smell, great lather, spectacular shave - incredibly close shaves.

Proraso soap and cream - individually, they're great. Together, they're splendiferous.

It was new and different to actually look forward to shaving in the morning, but here we are. I enjoy the process, and the results - much more than I did before.

and - for the record - I use a badger brush, but haven't spent over $50 for one. You don't have to break the bank on the brush - the soaps and creams will do that for you very easily (esp. Trumpers).

I second the $35 C+E brush. Fantastic brush, especially for the price.

I use Proraso Green, KMF Virgin Forest, Tabac Cream, Musgo Real, C&E Sweet Almond Oil, Geo F Trumper Rose, Old Spice Shaving Cream, Various Will G hard shaving soaps off ebay before his store closed.

I have vowed not to buy any more until I finished these up. It's going on a year now.

Shavemac brushes, they rock.

Various old Gillette DEs and a Merkur Futur.

I had a great shave today with the Old Spice Cream (has to be imported from India, not available in the States, go figure), my Futur, and Shavemac Finest grade badger brush. Thayers Rose witch hazel and Jason Aloe gel as aftershaves.

+1 on the shavemac. Another good call, Javyn.

At the moment, waiting on Salter shave creams from UK. Not sure why I ordered, other than there was a good deal on them...and I might run out of shave cream in, oh, maybe 2011.

How is the Futur working for you? Do you often change the setting on it? I admit I have mulled replacing my HD with one...
