I prefer to think of Shaq as having diverse interests, rather than being an underachiever. Just like the Williams sisters.

How awesome would it be if the Lakers announced they were going to erect a statute of Shaq outside Staples just to piss Kareem off?

i was lucky/unlucky enough to watch the big boy through his entire laker career. in his prime, he could make you absolutely crazy for 60 games, then turn it on for the last 24 and you'd think "what a great player." Then he'd show up for training camp the next year 2 weeks late and 40 pounds overweight. he got a lot of love from the local sporting press because he was such a good quote and so easy-going to be around (at least, as opposed to kobe).
as for walton ... maybe the top 5 college centers ever? not the pros. hard to lionize someone who only had 3 seasons of more than 60 games. he's a great "could have been". shame too, a real character.

Take each man in their prime season, Shaq would manhandle each and every one of them in the paint.

To be fair Shaq was still fairly young. They did get swept and I'll agree that Hakeem out performed him in the series but the the discrepancy between their individual performances wasn't that big.
