Shanghai Tailors: Baroman and Humsuit

I chatted with a tailor trained in China who recommended Baroman (Shanghai) and Humsuit. Has anyone used these tailoring houses?

Baroman is in HK and didn't know they had one in Shanghai. In the past, they were one of the best in Hk but I don't know about now.

Never heard of Humsuit.

Baroman Shanghai preceded Baroman Hong Kong from my understanding.

My only contact with Baromon was in Hong Kong 13 years ago. Somewhat boring styles-- like conventional Oxxford-- and they had a little trouble figuring out fitting a western-sized client in a week. But apart from the fit, the best-quality tailoring I saw in HK.

Were I to do it again, I'd go to WW Chan, which IIRC does have a branch in Shanghai.

A quick google, and Baroman left Shanghai around 1947. This tailor must have been trained a fairly long time ago.

Sorry for bumping old thread.

Baroman and many other prestigous "Red Gang" (Ninbo style) tailors left Shanghai before Communists took the country. But their old stores and staff were still there. Some of their apprentices carried the business on under those brands. And with those experienced staff, the businesses were still successful in Shanghai. If you go and ask a random local lander who is in his or her 50s, he or she would recommend you Baroman or Humsuit.
But sadly, they are now providing low-to-mid end services. Most of their products are MTM and fused. They dont even have a salesman speaking English, even a word.

Well, the Baroman in HK speaks plenty fine English and the suits are not fused.... how funny. They still make suits the old fashioned way.
