Nice story. I enjoyed it.

It does raise a question to which I can't find a definitive answer, though. Is "stupider", in fact, incorrect? I've done a lot of searching and as much as I can find is that many people think it is wrong but have no good reason why except "it sounds awkward" and that it is an exception to the usual rule of syllables when forming a comparative. However, there's no solid list of these exceptions.

I have a feeling it is one of those words that is technically correct but that smarter people avoid because it sounds awkward, but then haughtily correct "dumber" people when they use it.

It appears in several online dictionaries, and those who would note that it is not in the older ones should also note that the commonly used "stupidity" is not found in the 1913 Webster's, though "stupidness" is.

The closest analogue I can think of would be "vapid", which would seem to follow similar rules, but for no reason other than awkwardness. "Vapider" sounds awkward... but then, so does vapidness. Awkwarder? It becomes curiouser as one researches it....

Funny I had the same question for him after reading it too. I still remember our old childhood saying, "Going to Jupiter makes you stupider".
