I regret that discovering my greatest weaknesses cost me one of the deepest friendships I ever had.

I regret being a huge *****/wimp in college. I was always "the friend" to women, never "the hot guy." That has changed so whatever. Honestly, I don't have many regrets, but I am young.

Back in 2nd grade a girl asked me to slow skate with her at the upcoming class rollerskating party. I told her I would think about it and then confered with a circle of my closest compadres. They insisted I agree to it and then "dump" her immediately before the slow skate began. We all thought it would be great fun, so I told her I would.

A week or so later during the party, lo and behold the slow skate began. As she approached me, my friends were behind me, whispering at me to go through with our plans. My excitement to play up to the crowd waned immediately upon seeing the tentative look on her face and realizing I was about to crush her emotionally. I, being a cowardly 2nd grader, still caried through with it though, muttering a "um... sorry, but I changed my mind. I'm not going to skate with you."

The rest of the party she sat on a bench, dejected and crying occasionally, while I skated by miserably and filled with regret at hurting her like that.

That hasn't changed. Sure, you've gotten laid, but IIRC, going to lunch with a girl you like and parting ways afterward so she can go take her boyfriend some lunch doesn't mean that you aren't "the friend."

Thankfully, I don't think about them much these days.

Nah, she added me on FB awhile back. She has a chubby-cheeked midwestern Christian housewife type of look going on.
