I will never understand people who like to display their audio gear. You might as well walk around with your penis hanging out, IMO.

Do you tuck your gear away in a closet?

I'll sacrific a lot of function in the name of style, but the audio has to stay in my most lived-in room.

    LOL

I do both. Quite well, too. The perfect trifecta is when I can combine the first in my BMW. I've done the second. [IMG]

Serious audiophiles do this for entirely selfish reasons....and getting laid ain't one of them. The right gear can be art to the eyes as well as the ears.

And when it gets down to it, one only needs the bare essentials....

If you've seen the photos from the first SF in SF meetup, you'd know the answer is an emphatic "no".

Quite true. Much high end audio is beautifully designed in its own right like the B&W Zeppelin iPod speakers. I solved it for my wife by creating a listening room to keep my stuff somewhat out of view. However there are limits to what you can do and still have good sound. With my panel speakers they must be into the room away from side and back walls to perform optimally. It can also be a challenge to regulate heat in enclosures for the electronics. Fortunately most vacuum tube gear is sort of retro cool so displaying is an option imho.

Function over form in this instance. [IMG]

Admittedly, some of that stereo equipment can be quite nice-looking. Maybe something like this to anchor a bedroom: [IMG]

My friend Tom has an incredible reel deck collection and they add a nice touch. Pioneer is sort of entry level, the Technics 1500 and Revox A77s are the ones to get.

Yea...I remember for a while being impressed by that whole "rack mount" look (not for long).

I recall the 70's, early 80's (pre-cd era), when Studer Revox was the shit for people who weren't into flash over substance...but preferred the aesthetics and sophistication of professional quality for the home listener. Something your favorite prof would have had.

Revox was probably the best reel-to-reel, and built very high quality Swiss-German components (can't vouch for everything). I recall purchasing an early Revox cd player.

Tandberg seemed to be another alternative for the Revox-type crowd...especially their cassette decks.

It seemed like everybody lusted after the Nakamichi Dragon.
