As one of my favorite forums I wanted to just chime in and present a project I have been working on for black history month with my friends. As 20 something year olds we wanted to make sure we do justice. I knew I wanted to pay homage to Black History month but in a unique way so we mixed style and history was the best route.

Sewn From the Soul is an online editorial project brought to light by seven friends who have all collaborated together in order to see a bigger picture; ultimately meshing and intertwining Style and History. History is important as it gives us the ability to trace back what has occurred previously to help us better direct ourselves to the future. Style contributes to one's overall character and truly dictates our persona in everything that surrounds us. We all contributed our individual style to this editorial and used a primarily monochromatic palette to assist the Black History Month theme.

    Thoughts?

    Beautiful photos of everyone.

I just noticed that I went to high school with the kid who designed the logo. Small world.

Incredible. Thanks for passing this along and well done. This is the kind of shit that Oprah would eat up if you or someone else contacted her. And of course by "shit" I mean awesomeness.

EDIT: I submitted this to the Oprah website as an idea for a show topic/segment. I hope you do not mind. And yes, I am a dork.

I'm still amazed at what you guys are doing at such a young age. I was such a shithead at 20. I couldn't conceive putting together a project like this at that age.

The layout is clean and crisp. What's most impressive, though, is how you break down the inspiration behind each person's fit. At a glance, it just looks like a bunch of well-dressed guys. But the editorial adds such context and illustrates specific ways individuals and eras can influence what we wear today.

Well said. College students and recent grads who want to get into the retailing or editorial side of the fashion industry should pay close attention to how ambitious and polished the Street Etiquette guys are. This is awesome.
