With any item you buy (or obtain), there is an opportunity cost, which is applicable to you, at a given time, in a given circumstance. If you have far better things to spend your money on, for you the potential opportunity cost between a Patek Philippe and something like a Grand Seiko will be something to balk at, despite the arguable differences (or similarities) in craftsmanship, materials, or aesthetics.
