Can anyone let me know if there are Spring Drive dress watches from Seiko Credor or Grand Seiko with some guilloche-type work on the dial? I'm curious as to where in the US they might be sold -- a quick net trawl didn't turn up much. Pics would be great -- again, my net trawl didn't much enlighten me. How do these compare to Breguet or Patek?

Try Higuchi at this link:

I've order from Higuchi before and they are reliable and a joy to work with.

If you are into the technology the Credor is a wonder. Seiko has made automatic movements in house for over 50 years so they have the same heritage in terms of craft, accuracy and innovation as the Swiss. But can you live without the continental cachet? The Brueget and Patek are at a different quality level.

Think of the Grand Seiko and Credor as Lexus' Infiniti to the Breuget and Patek Aston Martin.

ArtiFran, from you it's never torture. You're too nice. If you were running things, the waterboards would be set in jacuzzis.

Andyw, thanks. Are Breguet and Patek really higher quality than the Credor, or is it simply their brand mystique? Not trying to troll, simply curious.

I would definitely imagine that the Pateks and Breguets are better-finished.

Personally, I don't like the appearance of most Breguets--the pocket-watch look doesn't really translate well into wristwatches; the overall appearance, if anything, is slightly tacky.

I rather like the hands on the Breguets, perhaps it reminds me of that firm's history.

Truly and for real.

In addition to higher quality, finish and detailing, movement complexity, precious metal for cases, and limited supply are other attributes that pile on the cost for Brueguet and Pateks.
