Seersucker: If not a suit, then jacket or trousers?

I'm interested I getting something seersucker for the coming summer, but wearing a seersucker suit here in Osaka will stick out like a sore thumb. I'm looking to minimize the impact by having a jacket or trousers and pairing them with something that complements them rather than matching outright. But what should I get?

Seersucker trousers with a navy blazer (perhaps in linen or cotton) is a classic combination.

I would do the trousers. Youshould be able to make up interesting outfits with seersucker pants.

Coat + khakis works well and probably would be less memorable for others than would odd trou. You'd also probably get more wear out of it.

I live in the land of seersucker and see fewer odd trou than odd jackets and full suits. And usually the odd trou come out for festive or very casual events.

Really, it's whatever you'd feel most comfortable wearing.

I agree with this. I only own a seersucker jacket. I think it's easier to pull off a jacket than the pants. I also think that a whole suit can look contrived really easily.

The only thing seersucker I have is a cotton tie to dress down a blazer in the summer. I have to agree with the jacket opinions though.

I have a khaki seersucker suit* and the jacket gets a lot of wear in warmer months. I think I've worn the pants once, as part of the suit, to dress as Mark Twain for an America-themed party.

So, go for the jacket.

*I was born and raised in Mississippi, so I'm entitled to a full suit (even if I never wear it as a suit and live in California now).

I live in Georgia, so quite seersucker friendly. I have an odd jacket, the standard blue/white. Allows for some nice summer looks. I have a few pairs of odd trousers that I actually wear a lot, but they're more subdued colors. One is cream/white, one is brown/white, and the other is navy/white. The duller colors really calm them down, most people wouldn't even peg them as seersucker. But they're very cool in the summer and have some nice texture for visual appeal. I'm not sure I'd wear bright blue or pink or red seersucker pants.

I've been looking for a good seersucker jacket for months, maybe a whole year.

I wear seersucker odd trousers, sometimes with a navy linen sportcoat, and sometimes with just shirtsleeves. I think they're more versatile than seersucker jackets.

Let's be honest, if you're in a situation where it's warm enough to wear seersucker, it's probably too warm to wear a jacket casually. Seersucker jackets are only useful when sportcoats are expected, but formality isn't.

Yup. Agreed with this. I also only have a jacket. It's really easy to pair with chinos, linens, white jeans, etc, etc. Pretty versatile. I just treat is as a pastel blue jacket, when thinking about colour options for pairing. The full suit would be a much stronger statement.

I wouldn't even consider wearing the full suit unless I was attending something like a horse race below the mason dixon line.

And I'm from San Francisco.

What shoes would you wear with that look? Well worn pair of wingtips? Maybe even boots?

Bucs, dirty or white depending on the overall look, work very well with seersucker.
